The Arts and Creativity is alive and well in Martinsburg, WV
This historic city is seeing a revival of sorts, but it isn't for things you might expect from what once hailed as the apple capitol of the world, it is seeing a revival as a response to people moving to town for inexpensive real estate. In response many of these people see opportunities to open restaurants and more in the historic district or nearby. Outside of the "old town" part of the city restaurant chains and stores are setting up shop because they are seeing that the harvest is ripe for picking. The residents of the area are ready. For too many years one had to travel north or south to find diversity in restaurants and for things to do, but no longer. Martinsburg is in a growth spurt and we are seeing great things happening. Thanks to those working in the fine arts we are also seeing our community become more of a vibrant place to live and work, with murals and public art beginning to be recognized for what they do for a community and live music to make people feel more alive. What will come next for the growing community. Stay tuned!

Advocating for Martinsburg
David F. Heatwole

Local artist and arts advocate David F. Heatwole has worked in a variety of ways to promote his home town of Martinsburg, WV.
From publishing an arts publication called The Main ARTery that was distributed widely around the quad-state region to having his own gallery in downtown Martinsburg, Heatwole has shown that his passion for the arts is strong. With Exhibitions Art Gallery, he strived to promote high-quality art in the city.
The artist has worked with Government committees and councils to have murals approved for in the city. He has proposed ideas on how to utilize an empty plinthe at the center of the city to attract attention and to inspire visitors.
Now Heatwole has launched this site along with a second site called www.ThisArtistsDream.com where he has spelled out his vision for Martinsburg/Berkeley County as well as a State, National and International vision. Learn more about this by clicking on the photo below.
Heatwole is married to his wife of 18 years and together they have 5 children.
